Sew on Cup chain (slim and non padded) II

Sew on Cup chain (slim and non padded) II

I personally think it is not the best idea to use thiw technique with padded brow bands as it will add stitched to the padding in the back.

But it would work.

What do you need?

  • stable mat or pad - you do not want to create small holes in the table top
  • a leather pricker
  • needle
  • leather twine or similar yarn
  • pincers (optional, to help drawing through the needle)

First you should decide how close the cups should be when you are finished. The yarn is going around the connectors between the cups, so the pierced holes need to have the right distance.

I just measured this including length of the brow band so I really get along with a evenly distance and a complete cup at the other end.

I used a cutting mat - as this includes some printed measures I could easily pierce all the rewuired holes in a 7mm distance.

The whole brow band was prepared before I started sewing.

Also enlarge the last / first holes of the already sewed end loops of the brow band - we will use those holes to fix the firs/last cup.

Start with fixing the yarn inside the first cup, the rest hangs outside. Just pull the yarn though one of the enhanced holes to the back, to the top again thorugh the other hole and I recommedn to pull it once around itself where the yarn comes out of the cup to fix this cup in the middle of the brow band.

Now lead the yarn to the first connector between brow band and cup chain, over the connector and now thorugh the hole to the back of the brow band. Use the second hole to bring the yarn back to the top.

Again lead the yarn to the nesxt connector, over it and then throug the hole to the back of the brow band.

Repeat until the complete chain is sewd on. In principle I think it would also be ok to just fix every second or even thirs connector in the middle of the brow band.

This was you only see a very small part of the yarn at the back of the brow band but the chain is savely fixed.

But the yarn is nearly invisible this way. Especially when you have a look at the top of the brow band with the chain:

So have a try !
